If you want to buy a U-boat because you like that particular model then buy it, don't listen to what others tell you, you are buying it for yourself.Necessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly. I am lucky enough to own an Omega, Rolex, Breitling, Pam, IWC, etc as Ive been collecting for many years, I bought these watches because I like that particular model, ie the Moon watch as its such an iconic watch BUT Ive never really bought into a brand before, I will stand up and confess that I do like the U-boat brand, I have only ever bought Classico's as I really don't like the over large and some of the more garish watches he does just to be different, the classico's are a good size, quality is spot on (I have compared against all my other brands) and the time keeping is an excellent +3 secs, my U-boats tend to get more wrist time than all my other 14 watches apart from dress occasions of course!!!ĭownsides, if you buy new, make sure its a keeper as you will lose a lot of money if you flip it, better to buy s/h, if you are looking at buying one luxury watch you would again be better off buying the normal go to brands like your Omega's, Breitlings, IWC etc. Omega, Rolex, Breitling, Panerai brands that people love to wear. I quiet like the fact that only a few people recognise the brand and its not a IWC. If you are looking at perhaps buying one luxury brand watch then yes look elsewhere, Omega, Breitling etc where you will get better value and more people with recognise your watch- that's not what the Brand is about. I visited a U-Boat dealers a couple of years ago just to have another look at them, I was very impressed with how they have evolved now, the quality is top notch and the classico range is excellent, I know, they aren't for everyone and I agree there are expensive, just don't buy new as you can get some bargains out there. Here's my view for what its worth, I really don't like the early versions when they first came out, way too big, poor quality with limited appeal but kept looking at the range, bought a chrono and sold it again and then got sucked in to what other people said about the brand which sit very much into the category of a marmite brand. ![]() If U-Boat is a reasonable product, I may just continue saving $$$ to buy one of their lower end pieces. But nobody else seems to push the large, chunky style though. I've read a little bit of disdain for them, again highlighting alleged marketing hype like Invicta. I'm curious what the general consensus is on U-Boat. I stumbled onto U-Boat who has a similar large, chunky style that I like. I was looking at Tissot, but one I wanted was discontinued a couple years ago. Early on, I was looking at Invicta (I know it's a cuss word to many) for the large, chunky, bold styling, but quickly learned it's more marketing hype than anything, and low quality. I've done tons of research and have a reasonable idea of what WIS standards are. I've saved $1K+ so far to spend and because it's such a big purchase to me, I've spent months and months carefully combing through many different watches to find one that I want. I am looking to buy a watch that is more upscale than my usual $20 Walmart cheapies. I'm fairly new to the forum and horology.
